The gorgeous and haunting passage (using the same violins sound) from "Immediate Curtain", the last track on the first Matching Mole album. It's probably the angle at which it was filmed, but again the sounds of the tapes springing back to their starts is almost as loud as the music, but you'll still get the idea!

Excellent Smeerlappen

@videoasst - Thanks! But I didn't write it out, just relied on memory and luckily got quite close. As regards the sound, literally all I did was turn the treble to minimum, maybe upped the middle slightly if I remember rightly, then put it through gentle delay and reverb together. I didn't alter the tone control on the Mellotron itself (that wasn't working at the time of filming this), just on the keyboard amp. tronfan66

It sounds like it could be a note for note transcription. Did you write it out? The closest I can get to emulating that sound would be using E-Mu's Classic Keys. Any programming suggestions? videoasst

Wonderful bobgreen623

@pinkfloydrule27 What is the Memotron like to play? If ever I start playing gigs again I'd use one of those (I've had too many times of lugging the Mellotron up and down staircases in pubs, not doing that anymore! :) ) Playing the real thing is certainly an odd experience, and you start employing techniques like the "tarantula across the keys" method to compensate for the 8-second playback limit on each key, or lifting fingers to give the tape time to rewind before you play the note again! tronfan66

@pinkfloydrule27 Luckily mine has been fairly stable, although there had been things wrong with it for many a year (such as the tone control never working), and various things were out of adjustment, but it didn't interfere *too* much with playability. I've always made sure I keep it maintained though (clean / demagnetise tape heads etc). Since this video was made, I've since had the 'tron restored so everything has been fixed and it looks and plays like new these days. tronfan66

have you had to repair yours much since you bought it or has it been a fairly stable instrument? It is sounding amazing by the way, i've used a memotron but i can't imagine how it would feel too play the real thing pinkfloydrule27

OOhh..finally i see a true Mellotron!! the legendary musical instrument of the prog era!...Wonderful! shivabel

@Aspartamebraintumor i had dreams about that, until one day some girl told me she had plenty of junk in her dad basement. he had passed away and hsee needed the space. voila!! i became owner of a minimoog , a 66 strat and some old vintage danish synth . also plenty of vintage porn magazines. keeep dreaming, it might come. odinmp5

Really superb! Still my favorite instrument. loekie64

@veloopity The mechanical mellotron sounds when the tapes are being pulled back loves you too. LogInAnders

wonderful !!! love the mechanical tron sounds when the tapes are pulled back veloopity

I too have strange dreams. I dreamed i was in some battle of the bands with a group of people i had never played with, let alone met before, and i was playing a prophet v and a moog taurus. By the end of the dream the prophet became a guitar hero controller with a miniature keyboard like glued to it. Luckily the change in shape didn't change its tone :) addth

bliss. stringquartet

I thought i was dreaming lol. DonJuanDeMarco2

Omg, i have those dreams every now and then. Like, i dreamt i walked into this old second hand electrical store and i found LOADS of useful studio gear, paid hardly nothing for them, i was so happy.. and then i woke up. And of course dreams of finding things in your house, more so when i was younger. A couple of months ago i went into my attic and guess what i found ? A vintage rare video game console from the 70's. I've lived in my house for 29 years, i didn't know it was trhere. I DonJuanDeMarco2

That was sweet... Isn't it funny how things in dreams change in to other things...I had a similar dream of finding a Yamaha DX1 in an old couples attic. Had no idea who they were. they just knew I was looking for a keyboard. It was a DX1 they they gave me but when I got it loaded in the truck it transformed in to a KX88 scott93257

Now that you mention it. :o)# It sounds like a McGyver instrument. Keijz74

What about doing some Rubycon? ratanakul

Beautiful! THE sound of British prog rock at its best. moogyboy6

Carlito, MTRON by M-Audio is an exact mellotron duplicate for midi compatible keyboards. It is a keyboard software, you should check it out.... You can hear the tape loops switching over in this video.Very awesome playing..... SephynnXx

This is so freaky but I've dreamed the same...oh nevermind I´m just kiding lasfinisimas

i always have the same god thats so wierd geeyouknit345

It's funny you should say that! Before I got my first 'tron I used to have similar dreams as well. Mind you, I still do dream about finding a MKII.... tronfan66

I wish I knew someone who owned a mellotron. I had a dream that I visited an elderly couple that my folks knew. In the corner of their basement was an old M400. They explained that they didn't quite remember how it got there; or that they were storing it for an old friend. It was broken of course, so I told them that it was trash and that I'd take it off their hands. I quickly got it repaired, but for some reason it turned into an MKII (I wasn't complaining!)
